DESCRIPTION AND BENEFITS

Medinah provides a working environment where interns are executing the skills they studied in school. Medinah's overall mission and commitment to exceeding member expectations, along with its fast paced environment, push interns to learn and succeed everyday on the job.  They will have an opportunity to work for and alongside many different personalities and management styles as well as different turf varieties throughout the property.  They are also expected to have an open mind and should be willing to try and accept different ways and methods to accomplish departmental goals.

 

 

WHAT YOU SHOULD EXPECT

Interns should expect to be involved in the learning and implementation of all key aspects of turf management.

They should expect to learn a number of new concepts and skills that pertain to golf course turf management.   When working at Medinah, they will become part of a team that is goal driven, fast paced, and dedicated to exceeding member expectations.

 

All will be required to fill out standard paperwork, pass a background check and a drug test.

 

Each student will be assigned to one particular course to start. They will report to that assigned Superintendent for daily tasks, scheduling, etc.

 

 

OUR EXPECTATIONS

 Interns will work on average between 45-50 hours per week.  Days off, unless specifically requested ahead of time to direct supervisor, will be determined by the course superintendent.  It should also be understood that schedules can change at any time due to unpredictable weather events, changes in club events, or any other insinuating circumstances.  Interns should also remain flexible in regards to the daily and monthly schedule, essentially meaning they should be ready and available when called upon to work.  In other words, interns should have the mind set of "on-call" status.

 

Interns are expected to dress and groom themselves in accordance with acceptable business and professional standards.  On occasion, interactions may occur with members and/or their guests, and the appearance is a representation of our department as a whole.  Your appearance on the golf course should give a positive impression to everyone you encounter on a day to day basis.  Medinah will provide shirts that are to be worn every day with khaki pants or shorts, which is expected to be tucked in at all times.  While hats are optional, any hat worn must represent a Medinah Country Club logo or name, although we prefer the Medinah staff issued hats.  Safety helmets are available and recommended while operating heavy or loud equipment and will be accessible upon request.  Headphones and other audio devices are ABSOLUTELY PROHIBITED as they inhibit the sounds of machines and prove to be a safety hazard while working.  All shoes worn must be closed at the toe and the heel for safety reasons, sandals are strictly prohibited at all times.

 

Housing provided will be at the nearby Deer Glen Apartments in Bloomingdale, IL located approximately 2 miles from the club.  Keys to apartment and parking passes to both apartment and Medinah will be provided upon arrival after signing a rules and regulations form.  The upkeep of the apartment is the sole responsibility of the intern team to make sure there is no property or ensuing damages to the living unit. There is the possibility of "drop in" visits by any given member of the supervisory staff to check status of the apartment.
